Introducing Kohana Coffee:
The Smooth Taste Worth Slowing Down For

(April 2008) Austin, TX — An exceptional new coffee is brewing and causing quite a buzz. Kohana Coffee, specializing in smooth, slow-roasted coffee, is the perfect pick-me-up worth slowing down for.

Inspired by a remarkable coffee experience on the Northshore of Oahu, Hawaii, Kohana Coffee was founded by Victoria Lynden with the goal of bringing incredible coffee moments to every day life. Named for the white flower blossoms of the coffee plant, Kohana differentiates itself by creating exceptional coffee in an exceptional manner. The Kohana process starts with the finest and rarest coffee beans, including the company’s core Hawaiian beans. Unlike other coffee companies, absolutely no “filler” beans are used in Kohana blends or flavored coffees; every single bean is premium.

Also setting Kohana apart is its unique roasting process. While the majority of the world’s coffee is roasted quickly at a high temperature, Kohana’s roast master has determined the proper slow roast for each type of coffee based on the beans’ individual characteristics. Using a technique developed in Hawaii, all Kohana coffees are roasted in the same old-fashioned drum-style roaster in small batches, allowing our expert roasters optimum control of quality while alleviating any bitter or acidic aftertaste. The result is a smooth, rich coffee flavor consumers will savor.

Kohana Coffees include dark and medium roasts, and decaffeinated and flavored blends. Dark Roast coffees feature rare beans whose bold taste and rich aroma are unleashed when roasted a little longer. Kohana’s dark roast coffees are: 100% Hawaiian Select, Espresso Blend, Organic Blend, Organic Ethiopian Harrar, Pacific Blend and Sunrise Blend. Kohana also offers an Organic French Roast and Italian Roast that stand up to the darkest of roasts, revealing hidden oils and a smooth rich taste that is never bitter.

Medium Roast coffees are reserved for those special beans whose unique and distinctive flavors can be lost if roasted too dark or too fast. A wonderful finish to any lunch or the perfect afternoon indulgence, Kohana’s medium roast coffees include: 100% Hawaiian Prime, Arabian Blend, Flores Bajawa, Kenya AA, Organic Ethiopian Sidamo, Organic Mexican, , Organic Sumatra and the company’s signature Kohana Blend, named Best House Blend in 2007, by the Austin Chronicle.

Rounding out the extraordinary Kohana experience are Decaf Kohana Blend, Decaf Columbian and Decaf Espresso Blend, and the exotic Hawaiian Hazelnut, Kahlua Fudge and Vanilla Macadamia Nut offerings. The quality and diversity of all its coffees make Kohana the most discriminating coffee in the world.

Kohana believes that specialty coffee should be enjoyed by all, and has made its exceptional coffee available at prices lower than competitors for the same superior quality beans.

Kohana embraces what is known as the Aloha Spirit—the friendly, accepting attitude for which the Hawaiian Islands are famous. But it’s also about living in the moment, cherishing loved ones and sharing with the community. From its unique roasting process to the company’s relationship with the small, independent coffee growers it supports, to delivering remarkable coffee moments, Kohana Coffee is committed to infusing this Spirit into everything it does.

Kohana’s main office and roasting facility is located in Austin, Texas. For more information about Kohana Coffee, call 512.904-1174, or visit www.KohanaCoffee.com.

Regional Best Press Release

Several years ago, Victoria Lynden and Piper Jones spent some time on the North Shore of Oahu, Hawaii. Everything they had heard about this tropical paradise -- the aromatic fragrances, beautiful landscape, engaging people -- was vividly true. They quickly found ourselves getting caught up in the spirit of the islands, spending every day discovering something new. From snorkeling and sightseeing to long moped rides and even longer walks, they were always on the go. Until the day they stumbled into a local coffee shop.

As Victoria and Piper began to drink their coffee a remarkable thing happened -- they began to slow down. The taste was so different, so delicious, they found themselves sipping it slowly just to make the moment last. They went back for more every day.

Intrigued by what could make a coffee so exceptional, Victoria met with the roaster and local growers to find out everything she could. She learned that each coffee bean type has its own characteristics and flavors, and that by slow roasting them in small batches, you could unleash their true flavor potential. She also learned that poor tasting coffees are the result of low-quality "filler" beans, roasted in the conventional method, much like a microwave.

While visiting a few coffee plantations in the past, Victoria had a new appreciation for the caretaking of coffee farms; for the snow white flowers of the coffee plant; and for the rich red berries that clutched the beans that would soon be roasted.

Inspired to bring incredible coffee moments to every day life, the two founded Kohana Coffee. Teaming up with some of the best in the industry, they buy only the finest beans, including core Hawaiian beans, and use the proper slow roasting technique to alleviate any bitter or acidic aftertaste. And because specialty coffee should be enjoyed by all, you'll find Kohana coffees available at affordable prices.

Discover the rich, smooth taste of Kohana and discover a coffee worth slowing down for - from the very first sip to the last.
